Dr Gurgius is an experienced Pain Medicine Specialist, consulting from Hobart Private Hospital and St. Helen’s Hospital as well as with us at the HT Health Group in Sandy Bay.
Dr Gurgius is a Visiting Pain Consultant to Hobart Private Hospital and St Helen’s Hospital and has admission rights to Hobart Private Hospital. Dr Gurgius is also a current clinical lecturer at the University of Tasmania and an examiner in the Australian Medical Council, the RACGP and Deakin University Medical School.
Dr Gurgius obtained his primary medical degree from the University of Alexandria in Egypt. He then completed the Australian Medical Council Certificate. He subsequently obtained the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, followed by the Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice. More recently he obtained the Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine/ANZCA. Dr Gurgius had undertaken additional training in Addiction Medicine. Additionally, Dr Gurgius has a specialist interest in the use of Medical Laser and Acupuncture in Pain Management.
Dr Gurgius also did medical training in emergency medicine, mental health, rural general practice, pain medicine and addiction medicine in Australia. As such, Dr Gurgius is well qualified to provide holistic care to his patients.
Dr Gurgius is happy to work with your General Practitioner and other health professionals to manage complex pain presentations and co-morbidities.
As a Medical Specialist, you will need a referral from your GP to see Dr Gurgius. If you have your referral, please feel free to book online for your initial appointment. Allow at least 60 minutes for this appointment. Please be aware there may be Medicare gap of up to $216 for this appointment.
